Following the amendment to the Electromobility Act, Tatra National Park is introducing an innovative transportation solution—electric buses—as an alternative to horse-drawn carriages on the popular route to Morskie Oko. Despite opposition from some local authorities, these changes aim to protect the environment and implement modern, eco-friendly solutions in tourism. “This means not only a reduction in emissions and noise but also a real relief for the animals,” comments Jakub Bańkowski, Board Member of NOXO ENERGY.

Electricity vs. Tradition

The new regulations allow the use of zero-emission vehicles, such as electric buses, to transport tourists in environmentally sensitive areas like national parks. Although the decision was made at the government level, the debate continues in the region. Many local officials oppose the change, fearing that electric transportation will replace the long-standing tradition of horse-drawn carriages.

However, the Tatra National Park authorities emphasize that electric vehicles will not completely replace horses but will serve as an alternative, especially for tourists seeking a faster and more eco-friendly way to travel along the popular trail.

Jakub Bańkowski believes that more and more institutions are recognizing the potential of zero-emission transport in ecologically sensitive areas.
