In the coming months, the Polish electromobility market may experience a real boom. As part of the National Recovery Plan Revision, the government is allocating substantial funds for subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles. These subsidies will benefit not only private individuals but also companies interested in leasing or long-term rentals of zero-emission vehicles. However, will the development of charging infrastructure keep pace with the growing number of electric cars on Polish roads? Our expert, Jakub Bańkowski, discussed this for the Polska Press Group’s portal, Motofakty.pl.

Poles Choose Used Cars

The growing interest in used cars has led to a decrease in the number of available second-hand vehicles for the first time in a long time at the beginning of this year. What is the reason for this? The decline is due to rising demand, driven by positive financial news, including an increase in consumers’ purchasing power. However, Poles are not only opting for “traditional” vehicles but also electric cars. In 2023, the number of electric vehicles listed for sale reached nearly 9,700, a 124% increase compared to 2022.

Subsidies for Purchasing Used Electric Cars

As part of the national plan revision, significant financial support is planned for buyers of used electric cars. The Minister of Climate and Environment has announced that the program will launch this year. A total of 373.75 million euros (about 1.6 billion PLN) has been allocated for subsidies to support both individuals and companies. An individual can receive up to 40,000 PLN, while for leasing or long-term rental, the support will not exceed the initial fee. The program aims to increase the availability of eco-friendly vehicles and accelerate the transition to green energy in transportation.

– To truly develop electromobility, we must ensure access to charging stations in both urban and less urbanized areas,” says Jakub Bańkowski from NOXO ENERGY, one of the pioneers in the electric vehicle charging station market. “It is crucial not only to increase the number of charging points but also to strategically place them. That’s why when expanding the network, we consider hotels, shopping centers, highways, office buildings, and other service locations used by thousands of people daily. We want electric vehicle charging to be as easy and accessible as traditional refueling – Bańkowski adds.
